19th of April Movement ( M-19 Militancy):-
Gustavo became the member of 19th of April Movement at the age of seventeen. It was a Colombian Revolutionary Organization movement. During this time, Petro served as the leader and in 1981 he got elected as Ombudsman of Zipaquira and then the Councilman from 1984 to 1986 ( two years approximately).
Petro Gustavo was convicted sentenced to prison for 18 months in 1985 for the crime of illegal possession of arms.
Later on, 19th of April Movement evolved as M-19 Democratic Alliance ( a political party), of which Gustavo was elected as the member of Chamber of Representatives in Colombian Parliamentary Election of 1991.
